Shampoo and Conditioning Bar with Varisoft EQ 65

Inspired by Susan Barclay Nichols’ shampoo and conditioning bar with Varisoft EQ 65 formula- with a few “tweaks”. This bar is packed with naturally derived ingredients and functions best with oily to normal hair. Varisoft EQ 65, Honeyquat PF and Clearhance C work in concert to bring mild conditioning, while your choice of hydrolyzed protein adds moisturization. The workhorse B vitamin Panthenol adds shine, softness, strength and increased protection to your strands.

  1. If the SCI is in powder form, you do not need to melt the SCI in the SurfPro CAPB you can simply mix the two together by hand in a large bowl (wear gloves). If you are using an SCI in prill or flake form, will need to do the following to melt: setup a double boiler and bring the water in the pot to a high boil. Weigh SCI powder and SurfPro CAPB into a glass beaker, mix by hand with a utensil like a mixing fork or spatula and place beaker in the double boiler to heat until melted. This could take a while depending on the initial size of the prill or flake
  2. In a separate container melt Varisoft EQ 65 pellets.
  3. Add Phase B ingredients to the surfactant beaker and mix well, then add the melted Varisoft EQ 65 and mix well by hand.
  4. Add Phase C ingredients and mix well by hand, the consistency will be like wet dough.
  5. Pack the paste into molds and place in the freezer for 1-2 hours. Remove from the mold and leave on the counter overnight to harden- this is not to “cure” the bar. Allowing the bars to dry out and harden is required to extend the life of the bar.

Makes approximately 400 grams (14.1 ounces).
