Conditioning & Shave Bar with Ceramides
Inspired by Susan Barclay Nichols’ Macadamia Nut & Babassu Oil Conditioning & Moisturizing Shave Bar- with a few “tweaks”. This multifunctional bar can be used for hair conditioning and/or as a shaving bar. BTMS-50 and Polyquaternium 7 bring exceptional conditioning, while your choice of hydrolyzed protein adds moisturization. Emollients like NatraSil add shine, softness, flexibility and increased protection to your strands. Mallow Extract increases circulation to your scalp and reduces skin irritation, while CeraRice™ strengthens the skin barrier and offers humidity control for the hair.

- Measure out the heated phase into a heat-safe container using a scale. Place the container on a hot plate or in a double boiler with the water as hot as it can go without splashing into the container. Mix occasionally insure uniform melting.
- Heat to 80-85˚C to ensure everything has melted, check temperature with a thermometer.
- To a separate container, add Cool-Down ingredients and mix well by hand or with a small electric mixer. Briefly heat the Cool-Down phase ingredients 40˚C to 45˚C (104˚F to 113˚F), so when you add it to the heated phase, it won’t cool it down so much that it’ll start to solidify.
- When Phases A reaches temperature, remove from the hot plate or double boiler, add the gently heated Cool-Down phase and mix well with a mixing fork or hand mixer with a paddle attachment or immersion blender.
- Pour into silicone-molds; then place in freezer for 1-3 hours until completely solid.
- After bars have completely cooled, pop them out of the mold and let sit on a paper towel for a minimum of 24 hours to dry and fully harden.
Makes approximately 400 grams (14.1 ounces).
