Hand & Foot Cream for Dry & Cracked Skin
If you are feeling the drying effects of winter on your hands and your feet, we recommend applying this base cream to help remove dead skin, soften and heal cracked skin. Urea is keratolytic, helping skin turnover old, damaged skin cells, as well as a humectant drawing moisture to the skin to promote hydration. Arnica is known to stimulate your blood flow, which helps repair damaged skin and reduce scarring and swelling
This example formulation shows how to structure an emulsion using NatureMuls; it is highly customizable, so if you’re interested in incorporating different ingredients, you can replace the oils with any oil of your preference or substitute the Urea with a different water-soluble additive, just be mindful to not use anything too acidic.

- Heat water phase on a hot plate or double boiler to a temperature of 80°C (176°F).
- While water phase is coming to temp, combine and heat the oil phase in a separate container. Gently stir the oils and waxes to melt them all together. Cover and hold at this temperature until the water phase is ready.
- If your water phase pot is deep enough to avoid splashing out when blending, pour the oil phase into it. If not, pour the oil and water phases together into a Rubbermaid-type straight-sided pitcher or deep mixing bowl. Insert an immersion (stick) blender into the mixing vessel, keeping it near the bottom and pulse on and off to blend. Move the stick blender around in the vessel to make certain that the lotion is well mixed.
- For larger batches (more than 300g), place your mixing vessel into a cold-water bath to create a cooling jacket around your mixing vessel. Immediately resume blending your lotion with your stick blender, moving it around the bottom of the pot to fully incorporate the mix. When the mixture is incorporated it will turn an off white color, continue blending until temperature is 40°C or lower. Remove the container from the cold bath and add preservative with mixing.
- Add the Fragrance (optional) to the emulsion and mix well.
Makes 300 grams (10.5 ounces).
