Moisturizing and Soothing Lotion

Moisturizing and Soothing Lotion

This lotion can be used as a face or body moisturizer due to its light skin feel and quick absorption. This formulation is packed with humectants to hydrate the skin and the oils combine to offer skin softening and emollience with a light and non-greasy feel. As this emulsifier works well with electrolytes, aloe vera will not compromise the formula.

  1. In a 500ml beaker or larger, add Phase A ingredients and give a quick mix, then to 75-80°C (176-176°F). Note: The water phase will take significantly longer to heat than the oil phase, so start this first to minimize the oil phase heating time.
  1. In an 800ml or larger beaker, heat Phase B ingredients to 80°C (176°F).
  1. Add Phase A to Phase B and stick-blend (immersion blend) for about 2 minutes. Continue mixing for 1 min increments every 10 mins until the lotion has cooled to 60°C (140°F). Do not continuously mix at high shear from this point.
  1. Add Phase C to the product and pulse the immersion blender on and off to incorporate.
  1. Mix with a hand whisk for 1 min increments every few minutes until the lotion has cooled to 45°C (113°F). Pour into pump bottles when cool (or jars if you used butters instead of oils). Formulation will continue to thicken over several hours, up to the next day after.
